This is a trail that is unique in our world today in that it is not a short one or two purpose trail (fitness or nature for example) but a trail that has aspects of art and architecture, history and culture, science and nature, recreation and fitness and that you can go on for a quarter mile or eight miles. It is perfect in our stressful world of personal alienation and obsession with technology to have a place where we can reconnect with our physical being and our community, have fun and learn about the world without a computer.

I have facilitated this since it's inception and have networked the many paretners contributions, including:public school groups and classes, Syracuse University classes, and individual faculty, staff and students; SUNY ESF classes, and individual faculty, staff and students; Oakwood Cemetery management; The "Historic Oakwood Cemetery Preservation Association," non-profit; The Ed Smith PTO and the Nottingham H.S."Faces of Nottinngham" non-profit; The City of Syracuse mayor and parks dept'; Onondaga County; The Public Libraries; The Islamic Association; Temple Beth El. The Everson Art Museum; The Onondaga Historic Association, Boy Scout troop #1 and several local Community groups.

To date we have a Five mile main loop trail across scenic rolling countryside that includes beautiful landscape views across many miles. We also have a mile long history trail; a .6 mile tree Trail, a one mile loop trail around a lovely pond and a historic stairway trail. Upcoming are a dozen other history trails in the cemetery, a1940's trail designed by a local lawyer who grew up in the area during that time, a ghost trail, a geocaching trail, and an "urban legends" trail among other projects. Art classes have already been conducted along the trail and will continue to do so.

The trail is a project most communities can develop at very little expense.
